Weekend predictions: A Quiet Place and Inside Out doing battle for top spot

June 28, 2024

A Quiet Place: Day One

Inside Out 2 will have worthy competition at the box office this weekend, with A Quiet Place: Day One looking like it has a shot at topping the chart. Our model’s Friday prediction has the two close to neck-and-neck. More...

Theater counts: Inside Out 2 remains widest release as business heats up

June 27, 2024

Inside Out 2

Inside Out 2 has been dominating the domestic box office since its June 14 release. It’s set to surpass Frozen’s $401 million mark this Thursday, entering the top 10 highest grossing animated films of all time. Currently, it has earned $400.7 million domestically and $434.7 million internationally, totaling $835.4 million globally. With 4,440 theaters still showing the film, it’s poised to join the billion dollar club soon, despite facing fierce competition from this weekend’s new releases. More...

Weekend projections: Inside Out posts $100-million second weekend

June 23, 2024

Inside Out 2

Disney is projecting that Inside Out 2 will hit $100 million this weekend, although just barely (their projection is exactly $100 million). If it hits that milestone, it would be only the seventh film to do so, and the first since the pandemic—Barbie currently holds the post-pandemic record with $93 million. Meanwhile, The Bikeriders is doing respectable business on debut, and no less than three other new films will make the top 10. More...

Weekend predictions: Inside Out set to dominate again on its second weekend

June 21, 2024

Inside Out 2

Inside Out 2 will post a big win at the box office this weekend, after its spectacular start last time. There’s only one new wide release, The Bikeriders, which could do well as an indie film with potentially fairly wide appeal, but will almost certainly finish third this week, with Bad Boys: Ride or Die continuing its run in second place. Theater counts: Inside Out 2 remains widest release after a stellar opening weekend

June 20, 2024

Inside Out 2

Inside Out 2 was off and running at the domestic box office last weekend as the animated sequel over-performed most predictions (including ours), pulling in an outstanding $154.2 million in its opening three-day frame. Possibly even more impressive yet, the film has increased its daily box office since Monday, when it posted $22.42 million in earnings. The film took in $28.83 million on Tuesday and $30.1 million on Wednesday, the latter marking the third largest non-opening Wednesday at the box office of all time. Once again playing in 4,440 locations, the Pixar film should have no trouble staying atop the chart. More...

Weekend projections: Inside Out 2 powers to spectacular $155-million opening

June 16, 2024

Inside Out 2

Inside Out 2 is blasting past expectations and headed towards a $155-million opening, according to Disney’s Sunday-morning announcement. That’s comfortably more than the $146.4 million The Super Mario Bros. Movie made on its opening weekend last year, and second only to Incredibles 2 on the list of biggest opening weekends for animated movies. The Incredibles sequel opened with $182.7 million back in 2018. Mario ended its domestic run with almost $575 million, and Incredibles 2 finished its run with $608.6 million. With stellar reviews, Inside Out 2 seems like a lock for $500 million, and $600 million at the domestic box office seems within reach. More...

Weekend predictions: Inside Out heading towards $100-million or more on opening weekend

June 14, 2024

Inside Out 2

Inside Out 2 will post the biggest weekend of 2024, based on our current tracking, and on a stellar $13-million in previews on Thursday. $100 million looks like a virtual certainty, and, if it behaves like similar animated films, and opening around $120 million looks on the cards as of Friday morning. More...

Theater counts: Inside Out 2 takes off in 4,440 theaters

June 13, 2024

Inside Out 2

Bad Boys: Ride or Die provided a healthy bump for the box office last weekend as the latest installment in the franchise launched with $56.53 million in its opening frame. The action-comedy currently enjoys a six-day domestic total of $74.76 million while having secured over $123 million from global earnings. While the film easily topped the box office charts in its debut, it will be one and done for the Bad Boys at the top as Inside Out 2 arrives in a whopping 4,440 theaters. More...

Weekend projections: Bad Boys powers to $56-million opening

June 9, 2024

Bad Boys: Ride or Die

Bad Boys: Ride or Die is powering towards a $56-million opening weekend, according to Sony Pictures’ Sunday-morning estimate. That’s down only slightly from the pre-pandemic $62.5-million opening of Bad Boys for Life, and 26% higher than our model predicted on Friday morning. The Watchers will land in fourth place with an OK $7 million, which will be enough to lift the market as a whole back above the crucial $100-million line. More...

Weekend predictions: Bad Boys riding towards respectable $40-million-plus opening

June 7, 2024

Bad Boys: Ride or Die

This is looking like a glass-half-full kind of weekend at the box office. Bad Boys: Ride or Die doesn’t look it will match Bad Boys for Life at the box office, but it does look as though it will have the best opening weekend since Kingdom of the Planet of the Apes with something around $45 million. Meanwhile, The Watchers looks as though it will have a respectable debut. More...
