DVD Releases for November 26, 2008 - Part I

November 25th, 2008

Strange week. There are a dozen spotlight reviews on the list this week, but only one is for a DVD coming out this week. Ten are for DVDs that arrived late, and one spotlight review is actually early. As for this week's releases, there are not that many that seem like must-haves and none rise to the level of a DVD Pick of the Week. If I were to choose the best release found below, it's WALL-E, which came out last week. But even then I would chose the Blu-ray I reviewed last week over the DVD. Despite the lack of a top tier release, there were still more than enough that it was necessary to split the list into two parts. Part two can be found here. More...

DVD Releases for October 21, 2008 - Part I

October 21st, 2008

The number of DVDs reaching my door is increasing each week (so are the number of ones that are late, or so it would seem). However, while there was a wide selection, the choice for DVD Pick of the Week was easy: Looney Tunes - Golden Collections - Volume 6. ... And James Bond - Blu-ray Uber Collection, as well as Casino Royale on Blu-ray. One last note, as has happened more often than not, this week's list is split into two. The second part can be seen here. More...

Kit Still Making News on the Per Theater Chart

July 1st, 2008

Kit Kittredge: An American Girl repeated on top of the per theater chart this week, pulling in close to $110,000 in 5 theaters for an average of $21,404. However, that was more than 50% less that its opening weekend average, which is a sharp drop-off for a limited release. The Last Mistress opened in second place with an average of $16,777 in two theaters. Two wide releases were neck-and-neck with Wanted earning an average of $16,040 and WALL-E right behind with $15,803. More...

Movie Website Reviews for Weekend of June 27, 2008

June 28th, 2008

Strange week for movie sites as both wide releases could have won the weekly website award. However, of the seven limited releases, most didn't even have full sites. The best of the week was WALL-E - Official Site, while an honorable mention goes to Dr. Horrible's Sing-Along Blog, which released its teaser trailer this week. More...

#1 Limited Release

June 27th, 2008

Not a lot in terms of limited releases this week, especially when it comes to high quality releases. While 60% positive reviews are considered overall positive, it generally takes 80% positive reviews for a limited release to thrive. This week, there are no limited releases to reach that level (although a couple come close and could reach that mark as more reviews come in). This makes it difficult to see which, if any of these films will break out. More...
