Synopsis

Precocious doesn't even begin to describe Henry James Herman, a petri dish child who writes rabble-rousing manifestos on the nature of truth… at age 10. This boy-genius misfit's world turns upside down when - to the dismay of the doting single mother who raised him - he embarks on a search for his biological father.

DVD and Blu-ray Releases for July 3rd, 2012

July 4th, 2012

After a run of several good weeks, it is a complete disaster on the home market this week. The best selling first run release will be... nothing. This is because there is no first run release coming out this week. According to Amazon.com, the best selling new release of the week is Midsomer Murders: Set 20, while the top ten is dominated by limited releases and Blu-ray catalogue titles. This makes choosing a Pick of the Week difficult, because there are so few prime releases. Rocko's Modern Life: Season Three is on the short list for contenders, as is The Hunter on Blu-ray. But in the end, I went with God Bless America on either DVD or Blu-ray. It's a great movie and there's a surprising number of extras on the DVD. More...

Limited Releases: Hunting for the Best

April 27th, 2012

It's a very busy week for limited releases with a dozen films on this week's list. This includes a number of films earning overwhelmingly positive reviews or earning some pre-release buzz. Jesus Henry Christ, Headhunters, Booker's Place, and Sound of My Voice all have a shot at earning some measure of mainstream success. I doubt all four will, because there's just too much competition for limited dollars, but hopefully at least a couple will do so. More...

Thinking About the Per Theater Chart

Think Like a Man was a surprise hit and the only film to top $10,000 on the per theater chart. However, Darling Companion came very, very close with an average of $9,991 in four theaters. More...
