Synopsis

The tale continues at the infamous Dragon Inn three years after it was left in ruins. A new gang has taken control of the inn as they secretly search for the entrance to the lost city of gold that legend says is hidden within. Threatening to expose their search is the arrival of a beautiful fugitive from the palace accompanied by the swordsman who would die to protect her, and a group of assassins who will stop at nothing to find her.

DVD and Blu-ray Releases for October 2nd, 2012

October 2nd, 2012

It's the first week of the month and there is a wide variety of releases worth checking out, but not exactly a strong selection of best sellers. The biggest first-run release is Dark Shadows and while I'm looking forward to possibly reviewing the Blu-ray Combo Pack, I don't think it will be a huge hit. New Girl: Season One and The Princess Bride: 25th Anniversary Edition Blu-ray look great, but I'm waiting for the screeners to make final decisions. I won't get a chance to review Universal Classic Monsters: The Essential Collection, but it is a contender for Pick of the Week. The winner of that honor is Cinderella Blu-ray, which is a classic, even if it is a little old-fashioned. More...

Per Theater Chart: Samsara (Sleep)Walks to the Top

September 5th, 2012

Samsara expanded from two to nine theaters, but held on well enough to rise to top spot on the per theater chart with $12,597. Sleepwalk With Me expanded to 29 theaters and was very solid with an average of $11,127. More...

Weekend Estimates: Possession Leads Labor Day Weekend

September 2nd, 2012

Labor Day weekend is traditionally the slowest holiday weekend at the box office, so it comes as no surprise that the overall chart looks fairly weak. However, Possession is set to produce a very credible box office number, with Lionsgate estimating $17.725 million through Sunday and comfortably over $20 million for the full 4-day frame. That's hardly blockbuster level, but is considerably better than consensus predictions coming in to the weekend. Another opener, Lawless, is well behind, with Weinstein predicting $9.7 million for the Friday-Sunday portion of the weekend. Far, far behind that is this weekend's other new wide release, The Oogieloves in the BIG Balloon Adventure, which is headed for about $450,000 from 2,160 theaters and will end up in the record books for one of the poorest openings in history. Limited Releases: For a Good Time, Go to a Limited Release

August 31st, 2012

It is a slow week for limited releases. There are six on this week's list, but none of them are earning overwhelmingly positive reviews. In fact, only half are earning overall positive reviews, and that might change for the worse as more reviews come in. (As I'm writing this, two of them are at exactly 60% positive. Last minute update: both of them fell below 60% positive reviews.) The Flying Swords of Dragon Gate is earning the best reviews and it was a massive hit in its native China, but it will likely struggle here. There are plans to expand For a Good Time, Call... on the 7th and the 14th of September, but while I want to see this film more than the rest of the new releases, I have my doubts it will expand significantly.
