Synopsis

Warwick Wilson is the consummate host. He carefully prepares for a dinner party, the table impeccably set and the duck perfectly timed for 8:30 p.m. John Taylor is a career criminal. He’s just robbed a bank and needs to get off the streets. He finds himself on Warwick’s doorstep posing as a friend of a friend, new to Los Angeles, who’s been mugged and lost his luggage. As the wine flows and the evening progresses, we become intertwined in the lives of these two men and discover just how deceiving appearances can be. A slippery psychological thriller that exposes true human nature and reveals just how far we’re willing to go to satisfy our needs.

DVD and Blu-ray Releases for August 30th, 2011

August 30th, 2011

Summer is officially over, both at the box office and on the home market. Granted, the theatrical releases are still really weak, but the TV on DVD releases are starting to become overwhelming. There are several such releases that are worth picking up, but none rise to the level of Pick of the Week. For that I went with The Coen Brothers Blu-ray Box Set. However, if you've made the leap to Blu-ray, then The Nightmare Before Christmas 3-D Blu-ray Combo Pack is worth an honorable mention. Meanwhile, there's a film called Norwegian Ninja coming out on DVD that has cult classic written all over it. I really hope the screener arrives soon. More...

Featured Blu-ray / DVD Review: Perfect Host

August 29th, 2011

The Perfect Host opened in limited release with better buzz than most films, but rather weak reviews. It debuted with a soft per theater average and wasn't able to recover. Was the film's hype just hot air? Or did the hype hurt the film? More...

Per Theater Chart: Transformers Towers over Terri

July 6th, 2011

There were only two films in the $10,000 club with Transformers: Dark of the Moon easily outperforming Terri $23,937 to $10,851. For the former, that was enough to break records over Independence Day. For the latter it's probably not enough to suggest significant expansion, but it might stick around longer than most limited releases. More...

Looking for the Perfect Limited Release

June 30th, 2011

Transformers: Dark of the Moon will be overshadowing everything else at the box office, but that doesn't mean there are no limited releases coming out this weekend. But are any of them worth checking out? There are a couple with overwhelmingly positive reviews, plus a couple have earned some pre-release buzz, but none that have managed both. More...
