DVD and Blu-ray Releases for February 10th, 2015
February 11, 2015
I can't wait till the winter blockbusters start coming out, because I've run out of ways to say, "It is a slow week on the home market." without repeating myself. There are some releases that are certainly worth picking up, like the Blu-ray debut for 101 Dalmatians, but there are also releases that I would call filler on the first page of Amazon.com's list of new releases. There are a number of releases that are worth picking, including Force Majeure (DVD or Blu-ray); Laggies (DVD or Blu-ray); Nightcrawler (DVD or Blu-ray Combo Pack); and Rosewater (DVD or Blu-ray Combo Pack). However, the only real contender for Pick of the Week was 101 Dalmatians.

This is not the first time I've reviewed this film, so we don't need to worry if this film is worth owning or not. It is. The question is whether or not the Blu-ray does the film justice. Read our review to find out.
One of the worst movies of 2014. It did well at the box office, given its opening theater count, but if you weren't interested in seeing it in the theaters, you likely won't want to watch it on DVD.
A live action Disney film that earned good reviews and became a midlevel hit. Is it a good movie, or it is merely good for a family film? Check out our review for my opinion.
Great show, but is has been released on a Blu-ray Megaset.
Lots of secondary Blu-ray releases this week, including the second Blu-ray release for Sailor Moon, which is one of the most popular Anime series in North America.
One of the best movies from last year and won a number of awards at Film Festivals around the world. Unfortunately, like most foreign-language films, the extras are light. It is still worth picking up, but not Pick of the Week material.
I remember watching this show when it first aired and it was fun. However, it is one of the best-selling new releases of the week and it wouldn't be if it weren't such a shallow week.
Given the subject matter (a real-life story of someone who stood up to the system) this could have been an Awards Season player. However, while it earned very good reviews, it failed to find an audience in theaters and faded away. It does have good extras (audio commentary track, making of featurettes, deleted scenes, etc.) and it is worth picking up. It's not a Pick of the Week contender, on the other hand.
This film opened well in limited release, but it couldn't sustain its momentum as it expanded. Is it a weak movie? Or was it the wrong genre for limited release? Check out our review for my opinion.
This is a fun series, but it shouldn't be this high on the list of best-selling new releases.
The sixth and final season of this fun show hits the home market this week.
This film opened with strangely mixed buzz. Some people were talking about the film as a potential Awards Season player, while others were talking about the film as if it wasn't even going to open truly wide. In the end, it earned the best reviews of the year, but wasn't able to find an audience in theaters. Sadly, this has resulted in a weaker DVD / Blu-ray release with just an audio commentary track and a short featurette. It is still worth picking up, but not a Pick of the Week contender.
I liked the first season of this show, but thought season two was rather weak. The show improved in seasons three and four, but I missed season five. Did the show continue to improve? Or has it returned to bad habits? Check out our review to find out.
A TV mini-series starring Frances McDormand as a misanthropic retired school teacher. Its reviews are amazing, but there are absolutely no extras on the DVD or the Blu-ray. It is still worth picking up, but it is not a contender for Pick of the Week.
Not one of the best-known Peanuts TV movies, but still very good.
This is the second DVD from the latest incarnation of this long-running franchise. It is the first DVD I got a chance to review. How is it compared to the previous incarnation? And is the new anniversary hook cool? Or is it too much of a gimmick? Read our review for my opinion.
This film earned excellent reviews, but it has a plot so complicated that I think it scared away most art house aficionados. Extras include a feature-length making of featurette, outtakes, and more. Definitely worth picking up if you are a fan of mind-bending Sci-fi.
Okay, so yesterday I wrote my review for this movie and in it I said I liked Last Week Tonight better than The Daily Show and the next day Jon Stewart announces he's quitting The Daily Show. That can't be a coincidence. I'm sorry, Jon Stewart. I take it back. Please don't quit.
A faith-based film that earned bad reviews and opened below the Mendoza Line. Even if you are in the target audience, there are better options out there.
