International Box Office: Wolf Leads the Pack

The Wolf of Wall Street rocketed from fifth place to first place with $32.84 million in 4,446 screens in 36 markets for an international total of $80.86 million over four weeks of release. The film opened in first place in the U.K. with $7.65 million on 500 screens, while in Germany it earned first place with $6.66 million on 502 screens. Meanwhile, it made $3.62 million on 327 screens in Spain, earning first place in that market as well.
Frozen returned to second place with $25.79 million on 8,869 screens in 55 markets for an international total of $426.50 million and a worldwide total of $758.90 million. It had a first place opening in South Korea earning $7.62 million on 1,559 screens over the weekend for a total opening of $8.79 million. With Japan still ahead, the film should have no trouble getting to $500 million internationally and $800 million worldwide.
Jack Ryan: Shadow Recruit debuted in third place with $22.2 million in 29 markets. This includes a third place, $9.55 million debut on 4,000 screens in China. It earned first place in Russia with $2.28 million on 1,050 screens. It managed second place in Mexico with $1.16 million on 701 screens and third place in South Korea with $1.49 million on 419 screens over the weekend for a total opening of $1.77 million.
Boonie Bears opened in fourth place internationally with $16.20 million in its native China, which was enough for first in that market.
The Hobbit: The Desolation of Smaug fell to fifth place with with $10.9 million over the weekend for a total of $585.0 million internationally and $833.5 million worldwide. The film opens in China and Japan next month, but will reach $600 million internationally and $850 million worldwide before then.
Despicable Me 2 was next with $9.0 million over the weekend for totals of $586.1 million internationally and $954.1 million Worldwide. It is only playing in China, its last market, but it made $18.39 million there on 4,500 screens, but that was for the full week. After ten days of release, the film has made $33.92 million there.
The Secret Life of Walter Mitty crossed the $100 million market internationally over the weekend. It added $8.0 million in 57 markets to its total, which now sits at $105.8 million.
12 Years a Slave made its debut in the top ten with $7.30 million on 1,016 screens in 16 markets for a total of $21.90 million so far. It expanded in the U.K., but still slipped to second place due to The Wolf of Wall Street. The film earned $5.02 million on 386 screens over the weekend for a two-week total of $11.72 million in that market. The film earned ninth place in Germany with $792,000 over the weekend for a total opening of $844,000, but it was only playing on 91 screens.
Paranormal Activity: The Marked Ones fell from third to ninth place with $6.0 million on 4,161 screens in 40 markets for a total of $43.9 million after three weeks of release. It won't be a major hit, but it cost very little to make, so the studio should be relatively happy with this result.
47 Ronin rounded out the top ten with $5.5 million in 45 markets for a total of $78.5 million internationally. The film opened in Australia, but only managed fifth place with $1.56 million on 324 screens.
