Per Theater Chart: Only Lovers Left on Top

April 15, 2014

Captian America: The Winter Soldier poster

Only Lovers Left Alive earned top spot on the per theater chart with ease earning an average of $21,997 in four theaters. Captain America: The Winter Soldier was the only other film in the $10,000 club as it earned an average of $10,481.

There were many other new limited releases, but most were merely mediocre. Hank and Asha and Hateship Loveship opened with nearly identical results with openings of $6,192 and $6,015, respectively, both of which were playing in one theater. Dancing in Jaffa opened in two theaters earning an average of $5,282. The Railway Man opened with an average of $4,520 in four theaters. Joe was weak opening with more than $100,000 in 48 theaters for an average of $2,206. Granted, that's a lot of theaters and it was playing on Video on Demand as well. The Butterfly Room missed the Mendoza Line by a large margin with an opening of $1,081 in one theater. Cuban Fury was even weaker with an average of $723 in 79 theaters.

This past week also saw milestones reached for a few Per Theater Chart alumni:

  • Le Week-End reached $1 million early in the weekend and it has a shot at getting to $2 million before too long.
  • Raid 2 also got to $1 million over the weekend. Its per theater average is barely above $1,000, so it will collapse quickly. Even so, it should still last long enough to get $2 million.
  • Cesar Chavez topped $5 million over the weekend, but that's as far as it will go.
