Per Theater Chart: Putting Thought in the Per Theater Chart

June 24, 2014

Think Like a Man Too poster

There were three films in the $10,000 club. They were led by the number one film on the overall chart, Think Like a Man Too, with an average of $13,142 in more than 2,000 theaters. Venus in Fur was close behind with an average of $12,381 in two theaters. The final film in this list was Le Chef with $11,290 in one theater.

The rest of the new limited releases were mostly good. Coherence earned an average of $8,500 in two theaters, which is a strong start. Despite weak reviews, Third Person did well earning an average of $7,771 in five theaters. A Summer's Tale was in a virtual tie with Code Black earning an average of $6,432 in two theaters compared to $6,319 in one for the latter film. The Last Sentence was the weakest film on this week's list, and it still managed an average of $4,510 in two theaters, which isn't bad. I'm sure some other limited releases will trickle in over the week and at least one of them will have bombed, but we can celebrate this while it lasts.

This past week also saw milestones reached for a couple of Per Theater Chart alumni:

  • Ida reached $2 million late over the weekend and its legs so far suggest it will last long enough to get to $3 million.
  • Island of Lemurs: Madagascar topped $3 million before the weekend and as an IMAX film, it should have the legs to reach $4 million and beyond.
  • Chef got all the way to $15 million just before the weekend and while it is losing theaters, it might still get to $20 million.
