DVD Sales: March 10th, 2013: Saga Stays Supreme
April 24, 2013
The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn, Part 2 remained on top spot on the March 10th, 2013 edition of the DVD sales chart, while there were seven new releases to put in an appearance in the top 30. Part 2 sold an additional 1.35 million units / $20.23 million during its first full week of release for early totals of 3.47 million units / $51.87 million. It is the best selling DVD of the year.
Wreck-it Ralph only managed second place with 992,000 units / $16.85 million, but it performed better on Blu-ray. Red Dawn earned third place with 284,000 units / $4.87 million. It is hard to be excited about that opening, but it also didn't do well in theaters, so this isn't surprising. The Breaking Dawn double-pack fell to fourth place with 213,000 units sold and $8.50 million in revenue. After one full week of release, it has sold 631,000 units and generated $25.20 million in revenue. The only true holdover in the top five was Argo, which fell to fifth place with 113,000 units / $1.69 million over the week for totals of 959,000 units / $14.36 million after three.
Duck Dynasty: Season 2, Volume 1 placed sixth with 105,000 units / $1.05 million, which is impressive for a TV on DVD release. Sofia the First: Once Upon a Princess opened in ninth place with 79,000 units / $1.10 million. That's a lot for a TV on DVD release aimed at preschoolers. The Marine 3: Homefront earned 13th place with 52,000 units / $777,000, which is great for a Direct-to-DVD release. Playing for Keeps was right behind with 51,000 units / $869,000, which is terrible for a first-run release.
