May 15, 2013
Iron Man 3 earned first place for the third weekend in a row, this time pulling in $89.3 million on 9,921 screens in 55 markets for totals of $664.4 million internationally and $949.3 million worldwide. At this pace, the film will have no trouble getting to $1 billion this coming weekend, while it should enter the top ten of all time by the end of the weekend. The film's single best market of the weekend was China, where it added $32.7 million over the week to its running tally, which now sits at $97.2 million.
Star Trek into Darkness debuted in second place with $31.7 million in 7 markets. The film earned first place during its opening in the U.K. with $12.96 million on 554. It also topped the chart in Germany with $6.33 million on 627 screens over the weekend for a total opening of $7.43 million. The film opened in the number one spot in Australia with $5.29 million on 486 screens. On the other hand, it had to settle for second place in Mexico with $2.60 million on 1,252.
So Young remained in second place in China, but slipped to third place internationally with $23.04 million over the week for a three week total of $100.03 million. This isn't the first Chinese film to reach $100 million this year, and it certainly won't be the last.
The Croods dipped to fourth place with $12.17 million on 8,104 screens in 43 markets for totals of $360.50 million internationally and $533.73 million worldwide. It is coasting on holdovers at the moment, but the studio is obviously really happy with its results, as they are making The Croods 2.
Oblivion remained in fifth place with $11.8 million on 8,116 screens in 59 markets for totals of $161.6 million internationally and $243.5 million worldwide. Most of its weekend haul came from China, where the film earned $8.5 million on 5,000 screens.
Les Profs rose to sixth place with $3.92 million on 624 screens in 2 markets for totals of $24.16 million after four weeks of release. It held firm in second place in France with $3.78 million on 605 screens over the weekend for a total of $23.65 million. As usual, the rest is from Switzerland.
Olympus Has Fallen rose to seventh place with $3.76 million on 1,727 screens in 28 markets for a total of $51.63 million after nearly two months of release. The film opened in second place in Spain with $953,000 on 316 screens.
Evil Dead entered the top ten for the first time during its run with $3.53 million on 1,648 screens in 45 markets for a total of $27.88 million internationally. The film struggled in Italy earning third place with $640,000 on 272 screens. Meanwhile, the film just missed the top ten in Australia with $123,000, but it was playing on just 5 screens.
Go Goa Gone opened in ninth place with $3.52 million in 5 markets. Like with many Indian films, that's all the information we have.
Scary Movie 5 fell to tenth place with $3.03 million on 1,502 screens in 30 markets for a total of $31.45 million after a month of release. This is more than it made domestically and puts it on pace to break even sometime during the film's home market run.
