DVD Sales: April 14th, 2013: Bible Doesn't Resurrect Sales Numbers
May 31, 2013
There were only three new releases to reach the top 30 on the April 14th, 2013 edition of the DVD sales chart and none of them reached the top five. This left the top five identical to last week. The Bible: The Epic Miniseries sold 161,000 units and generated $5.29 million in sales for the week, lifting its running tallies to 597,000 units / $19.60 million.
Lincoln sold 145,000 units / $2.90 million for the week giving it totals of 1.20 million units / $23.27 million after three weeks of release. The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey was right behind with 143,000 units / $2.09 million for the week. After four weeks of release, it has sold 1.81 million units and generated $22.79 million in total sales. Les Miserables fell below 100,000 units with 98,000 units / $1.96 million for the week and 1.12 million units / $22.45 million after four. Parental Guidance rounded out the top five with 83,000 units / $1.29 million. After three weeks of release, the film has sold 532,000 units and generated $9.21 million in total sales.
The best new release of the week was The Sorcerer and the White Snake, which only managed tenth place with 55,000 units / $743,000. This is bad for the biggest new release of the week, but then again, it sold many more units during its first week of release than its total revenue in limited release. The Baytown Outlaws was practically a direct-to-DVD release landing in 14th place with 47,000 units / $1.14 million. The final new release to chart was Hyde Park on the Hudson, which only earned 20th place with 22,000 units / $418,000.
