Per Theater Chart: The Here and Now
April 18, 2012
No film topped the $10,000 mark on the per theater chart this past weekend. The film that came closest was Here with $7,927 in its lone theater. This does suggest some potential to expand, but it is quite low for the number one film.
The best of the rest of the new limited releases was Woman Thou Art Loosed: On the 7th Day, which earned an average of $6,290. It was playing in just over 100 theaters, so this was a strong start. Monsieur Lazhar opened with an average of $5,905 in 19 theaters. This suggests some room to expand, especially given the reviews. How to Grow a Band was right behind with $5,705 in one theater. A fellow musical documentary, Hit So Hard, also did reasonably well with $4,740, also in one theater. There were a trio of other new releases that were not as lucky, as they missed the Mendoza Line. Blue Like Jazz just missed it with an average of $1,902 in 136 theaters, so it will likely still disappear from theaters ASAP. Touchback only managed an average of $1,340 in 50 theaters. L!fe Happens was very close behind with just over $20,000 in 16 theaters for an average of $1,262.
This past week also saw milestones reached for a couple Per Theater Chart alumni:
