IMAX: Prometheus Sets June Record
June 12, 2012
Prometheus earned $9.1 million of its $50 million opening weekend box office on IMAX, which is a record for a June opening. It also pulled in $3.0 million internationally lifting its worldwide total to $14 million.
Rock of Ages opens this Friday in IMAX theaters, but it is not the usual genre for the format. Granted, hearing the music in an IMAX theater would likely be very impressive, but it is still a drama. It will be interesting to see how well it does, because it could signal an expanding market for the format.
