Harry Potter and the Record Book
July 20, 2011
There's yet another record to report for Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows, Part 2, as the film crossed $200 million in just its fifth day for release, matching the record previously held by The Dark Knight and Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen.
Since Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen was released on a Wednesday, The Dark Knight is more useful to compare, and it is in this comparison that we finally see some weakness in Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows, Part 2. Despite opening much faster, by day five, Harry Potter's daily number and cumulative total are both below those of The Dark Knight and if this pace was to continue, Harry Potter will fail to reach $400 million domestically, while The Dark Knight surpassed $500 million domestically. Additionally, Harry Potter has to deal with stronger direct competition, but more on that tomorrow with the rest of the weekend predictions.
