DVD Sales: Transformers Look on the Bright Side of Things

There were only three new releases to reach the top 30 on this week's DVD Sales Chart, but all three placed high on the list. Leading the way was Transformers: Dark of the Moon with 796,000 units / $13.53 million from Friday through Sunday. This is lower than Bridesmaids opened with last week, but this was a Friday release, so that does have some effect. I'm still a little disappointed in the film's DVD sales, but hopefully it was much stronger on Blu-ray.
Bridesmaids was pushed into second place with 363,000 units / $6.22 million for the week and 1.73 million units / $27.66 million after two. It is already in the top ten for the best selling DVDs released in 2011. Spooky Buddies added 182,000 units / $2.83 million to its running tally, which now sits at 549,000 units / $8.66 million after two weeks of release. How I Met Your Mother: Season Six debuted in fourth place with 92,000 units / $2.57 million. X-Men: First Class remained in fifth place with 87,000 units / $1.43 million for the week and 1.13 million units / $19.96 million after four.
The only other new release to chart was Jeff Dunham: Controlled Chaos, which earned 7th place with 77,000 units, which is a fun coincidence. During its opening week on the home market, it generated $950,000 in DVD sales.
