International Top Five - Month Long Night
January 31, 2007
Night at the Museum has been in first place on the international charts for a month now and shows little sign of slowing down. This week the film added $15.21 million on 4422 screens in 48 markets for an international total of $194.88 million. Openings include first place debuts in Spain, ($5.67 million on 473 screens), and the Philippines, ($798,000 on 96). On the other hand, it had to settle for third in Brazil with $977,000 on 461 screens. Its best holdover of the week was the U.K. where it is in fourth place during its fifth week of release with $2.28 million on 458 screens over the weekend and total of $39.23 million.
The Pursuit Of Happyness dipped a mere 7% remaining in second place with $12.37 million on 2011 screens in 15 markets for an international total of $49.10 million. The film opened in second place in Japan with $2.87 million on 271 screens while it took top spot in New Zealand with $264,000 on 51. The film remained in first place in Germany with an impressive $2.01 million on 517 screens and already has $5.79 million after just 10 days. It remained in second place in Italy with $2.64 million on 420 screens and slipped a spot to third in the U.K. with $2.40 million. In those two markets the film has made $15.12 million and $14.13 million respectively.
The Blood Diamond rocketed into third place with $11.80 million on 2404 screens including $2.88 on 371 screens during a second place debut in the U.K. Aided by recent Oscar nominations, the film also opened in second place in Germany, ($1.64 million on 493 screens), and fourth in Italy, ($1.56 million on 264 screens).
Rocky Balboa was close behind with $10.96 million on 2440 screens in 11 markets for a total of $40.75 million internationally. The film also was able to top $100 million worldwide, but that is far from the last milestone this film will hit. In France the film was a huge hit earning $4.1 million on 492 screens while it remained in first place in the U.K. despite a 53% drop-off to $3.34 million on 411 screens. In that market alone it has $12.98 millions, which is already more than it made domestically, if you take the relative size of the two markets into consideration.
Salaam-e-Ishq: A Tribute to Love opened in fifth place with $9.36 million on 933 screens for a very impressive $10,037 per screen average. Unfortunately, we don't have exact numbers for India, but early reports are very strong with 90% of the tickets sold throughout the weekend after slow midweek start. We do have figures for the U.K., $522,000 on 49 screens and $90,000 on 13 screens in Australia. The film was unable to crack to the top in either market; however, it was still able to place higher than it did here scoring 14th and 18th place respectively.
