Year Was No Dog on the Per Theater Chart

April 17, 2007

There was only one film able to top $10,000 on the per theater charts, and that was Year of the Dog at $15,460. The next closest movie, Disturbia, had less than half that at $7,598.

Private Fears in Public Places opened with a respectable average of $7,196. Next up was Red Road with an average of $5,670 in three theaters while Jack Smith and the Destruction of Atlantis opened with $4,750 in its lone theater. There were a pair of releases that finished with nearly identical averages as Lonely Hearts and Everything's Gone Green earned $3,497 and $3,426 respectively. Finally, The Glamorous Life of Sachiko Hanai wasn't able to draw in even the curious as it finished the weekend with just $1,787.

This past week also saw milestones reached for a couple of Per Theater Chart alumni:

  • Avenue Montaigne reached $1 million over the weekend, but that is likely as far as it will go.
  • The Hoax made it to $3 million, but its per theater average is low enough to suggest there will be no significant expansion beyond this point and that will hurt its chances to reach much further than $5 million.
