Weekend Estimates - Order of Phoenix Hits Box Office Gold
July 15, 2007
Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix hit box office gold over the weekend, earning an estimated $77.41 million according to Warner's Sunday estimate.
The movie's five day gross, including Wednesday and Thursday, is now just over $140 million.
That's the best five-day start in the history of the franchise (see Harry Potter box office history), and gives the movie a good shot at reaching $300 million during its run.
Most movies in the rest of the top ten performed above expectations.
The Transformers was down less than 50% -- very impressive for a blockbuster these days.
Ratatouille and Live Free or Die Hard were both down under 40%.
Most remarkably, License to Wed fell only 29% in its second full weekend, defying terrible reviews to earn another $7.4 million.
