Home Market Releases for February 28th, 2017
February 28, 2017
It is not a particularly long list of new releases this week, but there are several that are must haves. This includes Doctor Strange, which was named Pick of the Week last week. Other contenders for that title include The Gate on Blu-ray, The Raid: Collection on Blu-ray, and Moonlight on Blu-ray. In the end, it wasn’t too hard to select Moonlight as Pick of the Week. However, The Gate does earn Puck of the Week for Best Canadian Release.

Katie Holmes’ directorial debut. The early reviews were good, but the overall reviews were not. It is interesting enough to be worth a rental, but that’s it.

A World War II thriller about a pair of spies that fell in love and got married. However, one of them might be a double-agent. The reviews were good, but many thought it would be excellent. It also disappointed at the box office. Extras include a lot of making of featurettes, but most are quite short. Overall, it is worth picking up, but not a contender for Pick of the Week.
The amazing trilogy from Richard Linklater, Julie Delpy, and Ethan Hawke. The film’s are great and the Criterion Collection is loaded with extras. It isn’t inexpensive, but it is worth picking up.
VOD (Movie Only) or VOD (With Bonus Features)
There have been more than a dozen films in the MCU and this film is the latest installment. It is also the origin story of the first magical hero in the MCU, so there’s a lot to introduce audience members to. Does it work? Can it overcome the usually origin story road blocks? Read our review to find out.

As a Canadian, it might be my patriotic duty to buy this DVD.

“You guys watch Joe Don Baker movies?” I only mentioned this movie literally because I wanted to make that MST3K quote.

I never liked the original show and this reboot is even worse.

I was really hoping to get a screener for this movie, but that’s not going to happen. I love this movie, even though its reviews are weak. Extras include three audio commentary tracks, plus more than two hours of featurettes. It is easily worth picking up and a contender for Pick of the Week.

This is perfect timing for this DVD / Blu-ray release, as the film was given the Best Picture at the Oscars on Sunday. ... Eventually. It goes without saying that the reviews are stellar. Extras are good for a limited release with an audio commentary track, a couple of making of featurettes, and a featurette on the music. It is clearly worth picking up and a Contender for Pick of the Week.

A cop thriller about a police officer who is repeatedly killed on the job and then reincarnated with dark technology. The reviews are mixed, but if you are into an over-the-top violent action movie, then it is worth checking out. However, I would recommend renting it.

An Australian TV drama starring Marta Dusseldorp as a mysterious woman who returns to Australia with after 20 years abroad. I haven’t been able to find many reviews, but most have been positive.
Both The Raid and The Raid 2 earned excellent reviews and did really well in limited release. Furthermore, this two-movie set costs just $14, which is an excellent deal for a limited release.
Video on Demand
This was one of the biggest box office bombs of 2016. Its reviews are certainly better than its box office numbers and if you are a fan of the cast, then it is worth checking out. The only extras on the DVD / Blu-ray are a making of featurette, a music video, and a gallery. I would suggest renting it on VOD.
Video on Demand
I forgot this movie existed. It’s Tomatometer Score is just 6% positive, so forgetting it ever existed is the kind thing to do.

A lesbian couple find their marriage on the rocks after years of drifting apart. One begins an affair while the other buries herself in her work. There is only one review on Rotten Tomatoes, but it is positive, so that’s a good sign.
A “classic” in the Cavemen Dealing with Dinosaurs genre. If you are a fan of these movies, then this is one of the best. Also, the Blu-ray has the international version and not the edited version that was shown domestically.

Allied - Reviews - Buy from Amazon: 4K Ultra HD Combo Pack
This is a good movie, but not a great movie, while it doesn’t need to be seen in 4K.
No TV on DVD Megasets this week, not unless you count some of the Anime titles above.
