Theater Averages: Exits is Golden with $11,719, Fifty Shades Freed Settles for Silver
February 13, 2018
Golden Exits earned first place with $11,719 in its lone theater. The only other film in the $10,000 club was Fifty Shades Freed with an average of $10,234.
Four of the other five new limited releases were playing in more than 100 theaters. Pad Man was the best of the rest earning an average of $4,871 in 152 theaters. 2018 Oscar Shorts and La Boda Valentina had nearly identical averages of $3,510 and $3,465, while both were playing in well over 100 theaters. The Female Brain was only playing in two theaters earning an average of $3,443. Finally, there’s But Deliver Us from Evil, which earned an average of just $403 in nearly 250 theaters.
This past week also saw milestones reached for a few Per Theater Chart alumni:
- La Boda Valentina earned more than $1 million during its opening weekend.
- Padmaavat got to $10 million during the weekend, but that’s likely as far as it will go.
- Phantom Thread topped $15 million just before the weekend. It could get to $20 million, if it wins a few Oscars.
- I, Tonya reached $25 million over the weekend. It will need some Oscar success to get past $30 million.
- Hostiles also hit $25 million over the weekend. It is losing theaters at an accelerate rate, on the other hand, so it very likely won’t get too much further than $30 million.
- Lady Bird reached $45 million over the weekend, but unless it converts some of its Oscars nominations into wins, it won’t get to $50 million.
- Three Billboards Outside Ebbing Missouri also reached $45 million over the weekend, but it is almost guaranteed to reach $50 million, even if it doesn’t win a single Oscar.
- The Shape of Water topped $45 million early last weekend and was at nearly $50 million by the end of the weekend.
- Darkest Hour hit $50 million early in the weekend and should get to $55 million, but it might need an Oscar win or two to get there.
- The Post made it all the way to $70 million over the weekend and is now in 43rd place on the 2017 chart.
