International Box Office: Solo Doesn’t Soar, Still Tops Chart with $65.0 million

Solo: A Star Wars Story earned first place on the international chart with $65.0 million in 54 markets; however, this is about half what the film needed to make to be a undisputed financial success. The film only cracked $10 million in one market, the U.K. where it made $10.3 million. However, China was close behind with $9.71 million over the weekend and $9.84 million including previews.
Deadpool 2 was right behind with $57.03 million in 80 markets for totals of $279.74 million internationally and $487.91 million worldwide. Unless the film cost way more to advertise than it cost to make, it has already broken even, which is great news for the studio. The film’s best market is the U.K., where it has earned $27.55 million, including $5.02 million in 615 theaters this past weekend. South Korea isn’t far behind with $3.70 million on 933 screens over the weekend for a two-week total of $26.80 million.
Avengers: Infinity War landed in third place with $32.5 million in 36 markets for totals of $1.283 billion internationally and $1.905 billion worldwide. The film is on pace to get to $2 billion worldwide, but it will likely drop out of the top five before then. We will continue to track it, even as it falls down the chart.
How Long Will I Love U rose to first place in China with $24.37 million over the weekend for a two-week total of $81.59 million in its native market.
Believer opened in first place in South Korea and fifth place internationally with $9.31 million on 1,357 screens over the weekend for a total opening of $14.92 million. That’s equivalent to a $100 million opening here, given the relative size of the two markets.
