TAYLOR SWIFT | THE ERAS TOUR

The wait is finally over as the concert event of the year hits the big screen with the release of TAYLOR SWIFT | THE ERAS TOUR. Opening in approximately 3,850 locations in North America, and 8,000 worldwide, the concert film highlights the singer’s ultra popular 2023-2024 Eras Tour and with $100 million in global pre-sales for the theatrical release already, the movie is sure to set the stage for future concert films, as well as the upcoming holiday season.

Directed by Sam Wrench, the film specifically charts three shows performed at SoFi Stadium in Inglewood, California during August, 2023. To see the film, viewers will pay $19.89 for an adult ticket, and $13.13 for a child or senior citizen—paying homage to Swift’s previously titled album, “1989”, (as well as her year of birth), along with what is believed to be her lucky number 13. Due to the massive appeal of the tour itself, the singer commissioned the recording to be made into a nearly three-hour feature film to be released on both traditional and IMAX screens across the globe. It plays in 90 territories this weekend, and expands even farther on November 3rd.

Less than a week before the film’s release, its distributor AMC Theatres Distribution announced that the movie had surpassed Justin Bieber: Never Say Never to become the highest-grossing concert film of all time, while also rivaling many of the biggest Marvel films. The popularity of Swift and the film’s blockbuster potential prompted 11 movies to pull their release dates so as not to contend with the mega hit.

In case you’re one of the seemingly few people uninterested in seeing the performer on the big screen, there are still opportunities to watch some older films that have been out for a few weeks. Rounding out the top five this week Paw Patrol: The Mighty Movie, dropping back below 4,000 locations, for a total of 3,707. Next up is last week’s newcomer in The Exorcist: Believer, adding 21 cinemas this week, logging in at 3,684 theaters, followed by Saw X in 3,058 venues, and lastly, The Creator still widely available in 2,960 locations.

Looking ahead to next week we see another lone wide release make its way into theaters in the way of Martin Scorcese’s Killers of the Flower Moon, the 1920’s western drama about the mysterious deaths of members of the Osage tribe in Northeastern Oklahoma, and the following investigation. The film is expected to start out in approximately 3,500 cinemas throughout North America. It’s worth mentioning that Dicks: The Musical will make its wide expansion next week. We will update those numbers when they become available.
