Weekend Predictions: King of Kings looking for second place behind dominant Minecraft
April 11, 2025
A Minecraft Movie will remain safely at the top of the box office chart this weekend as no less than five new releases battle for second place. Our model thinks The King of Kings will finish second, but with so many new releases aimed at different audiences, there’s a lot of uncertainty over how everything will work out.
With so many new films, we’ll only have time to share the model’s predictions this week…
Here’s what the model thinks the top 10 will look like.
Note that our prediction for The Chosen: Last Supper—Part 3 is based on the performance of Part 1 and Part 2, and assumes a continued decline in earnings from the previous installments. Also opening this weekend (and doing very well yesterday) is Good Bad Ugly, a Tamil-Indian film. It earned around $500,000 yesterday, and could hit the top 10 as well this weekend.
The pressures on screen real estate will likely hit films that have been playing for two or three weeks especially hard this weekend. Overall, the market will be down, but still looking healthy thanks to Minecraft.
