Weekend projections: Weapons and Freakier Friday both land excellent openings

August 10th, 2025

Weapons

Weapons is headed towards a massive opening weekend, with Warner Bros projecting a $42.5-million opening as of Sunday morning. That marks the sixth consecutive $40-million-plus opening for the studio since A Minecraft Movie opened in April—a record run for any studio. Disney’s Freakier Friday is taking the old-school route to a $29 million debut. More...

Weekend predictions: Weapons and Freakier Friday off to flying starts

August 8th, 2025

Weapons

Weapons and Freakier Friday have both posted good numbers from last night’s preview shows, with Weapons the clear leader between the two with an impressive $5.7 million (the best for an original horror movie since Nope). Freakier Friday’s $3.1 million is nearly double the amount The Naked Gun pulled in from its previews last weekend. More...

Theater counts: Freakier Friday swaps into the spotlight, claiming the weekend’s widest release

August 7th, 2025

Freakier Friday

In its second weekend, The Fantastic Four: First Steps scored a shaky $39 million, pushing its 10-day haul to a substantial $197 million and retaining its throne as the top film at the domestic box office. As the superhero juggernaut continues its reign, four new wide releases step into theaters, eager to dethrone the champ. More...

Theater counts: Barbarian lands in theaters but No Way Home endures once again as widest release

September 8th, 2022

Spider-Man: No Way Home

While no film put up huge numbers last weekend at the box office, it was an interesting one nevertheless as a handful of films repeatedly traded places with one another at the top of the chart, finally presenting a winner in Top Gun: Maverick as the jet-fueled movie came out on top of the Labor Day Holiday weekend (while also crossing the $700 million mark domestically on Monday). One of Maverick’s competitors was another behemoth feature, Spider-Man: No Way Home, which once again repeats as widest release this weekend by showing in 3,213 cinemas. Those two films alone account for a staggering $3.34 billion in worldwide earnings to date. More...
