Synopsis

Polisse follows the daily lives of a tight-knit team of men and women working in the Child Protection Unit of the Parisian police. They not only deal with the stress of their jobs but the inevitable fall-out in their personal lives—breakdowns, divorce and adulterous relations within the force. In between, there are frequent flashes of humor as the team attempts to diffuse daily realities. As the cases, confessions and interrogations pile up, the squad members have only each other as support as they face an uphill battle against both criminals and bureaucracy.

DVD and Blu-ray Releases for October 30th, 2012

October 30th, 2012

It's not a great week on the home market. The best first run release is The Campaign, but while the movie is good, the DVD and the Blu-ray Combo Pack don't have enough extras. There are a few limited releases that piqued my interested as far as Pick of the Week was concerned. Safety Not Guaranteed on DVD or Blu-ray, Ruby Sparks on DVD or Blu-ray, and Polisse on DVD were all contenders. However, in the end I went with Alfred Hitchcock: The Masterpiece Collection. The Blu-ray box set is awesome. More...

Per Theater Chart: Nothing Left to Avenge

May 23rd, 2012

The Avengers was the only film to reach the $10,000 mark on the per theater chart earning an average of $13,096. Elena probably would have earned a spot in the $10,000 club had it not opened on Wednesday. It earned $9,035 in one theater over the weekend, but $13,240 over its five-day opening. More...

Guiding Limited Releases

May 18th, 2012

It could be a bad week for limited releases. There are a number of films that are opening this week that earned more buzz than most limited releases earn, but almost all of them have really bad reviews. The one I'm most interested in is Indie Game: The Movie, which is currently earning 100% positive reviews, but I'm not sure there are enough fans of Indie games to support the film in theaters. Likewise, Polisse and Quill: Life of a Guide Dog are earning great reviews, but foreign language films rarely expand wide enough to earn some measure of mainstream success. Maybe one of them will prove to be the exception. More...
