Our DVD and Blu-ray sales estimates are based on weekly retail surveys, which we use to build a weekly market share estimate for each title we are tracking. The market share is converted into a weekly sales estimate based on industry reports on the overall size of the market, including reports published in Media Play News.

For example, if our weekly retail survey estimates that a particular title sold 1% of all units that week, and the industry reports sales of 1,500,000 units in total, we will estimate 15,000 units were sold of that title. The consumer spending estimate is based on the average sales price for the title in the retailers we survey.

We refine our estimates from week to week as more data becomes available. In particular, we adjust weekly sales figures for the quarter once the total market estimates are published by the Digital Entertainment Group. Figures will therefore fluctuate each week, and totals for individual titles can go up or down as we update our estimates.

Because sales figures are estimated based on sampling, they will be more accurate for higher-selling titles.

It was another win for Lilo & Stitch at the domestic box office over the weekend, with the film posting over $32 million in its third frame, outpointing newcomer Ballerina by nearly $8 million, and taking its 17-day North American total to $335.66 million. Lilo & Stitch

Lilo & Stitch once again dominated the weekend box office by grabbing just short of $62 million in its second go-around, catapulting its total to an impressive $279 million. After fending off both Mission: Impossible — The Final Reckoning and newcomer Karate Kid: Legends last weekend, the film will face a much stiffer test this weekend as From the World of John Wick: Ballerina makes its way into theaters. Lilo & Stitch

It was an outstanding Memorial Day weekend at the domestic box office, with the newcomers racking up nearly $220 million in combined earnings for their 3-day opening and $260 million for their 4-day opening volley. Led by Lilo & Stitch’s $146 million haul and Mission: Impossible — The Final Reckoning’s $64 million contribution for the 3-day weekend, it was an exciting one for moviegoers of all ages. The competition will be fierce this weekend as two new wide releases will attempt to make their way to the winner’s circle, searching for a box office win. More...

It was a stellar weekend at the domestic box office for newcomer Final Destination: Bloodlines as the latest installment scored $51.6 million in its debut, sealing it as the fifth-biggest weekend of 2025, while topping the opening weekend earnings for the franchise. It will be a short-lived reign at the top for Bloodlines this Memorial Day weekend, however, as a duo of heavy hitters are set to make their big screen debuts. More...

Frankie Drake Mysteries

We are still in that awkward time on the home market we have to deal with every year. It is too late for the summer blockbusters to come out on DVD / Blu-ray, but too soon for the fall hits or Oscar contenders. This means there’s very little in the way of contenders for Pick of the Week with only one release worth considering, a Canadian show, Frankie Drake Mysteries: Season 1. This does mean I get to give out a Puck of the Week, for best Canadian release. More...
