Weekend projections: Deadpool & Wolverine cracking $200-million barrier this weekend

July 28, 2024

Deadpool & Wolverine

2024 has been marked by a lack of movies, and lackluster performance from those we have had. Deadpool & Wolverine is a movie that isn’t really interested in those kind of niceties though, and audiences are responding in kind, with the super hero actioner set to break the magical $200-million barrier this weekend, giving it easily the best opening weekend of 2024 so far (and very likely for the year as a whole). Weekend predictions: Deadpool & Wolverine headed for gigantic opening weekend

July 26, 2024

Deadpool & Wolverine

Deadpool & Wolverine is set to break records this weekend. It already posted the 8th-best previews in history yesterday, with $38.5 million reported by Disney this morning. What that means for the weekend as a whole remains to be seen, but our model is optimistic that it will not only have the best weekend of 2024 so far, but climb high on the all-time list. More...

Theater counts: Deadpool & Wolverine slash their way into 4,210 theaters

July 25, 2024

Deadpool & Wolverine

Twisters blew into theaters last weekend, whisking up a splendid $81 million in its opening frame, and currently enjoys a six-day domestic total of just over $113 million. The disaster film’s reign at the top of the box office, however, will likely be short-lived as two new wide releases make their way into theaters, including the long-awaited arrival of Deadpool & Wolverine. Weekend projections: Twisters hits blockbuster territory with $80-million opening

July 21, 2024

Twisters

Resurrecting old intellectual property doesn’t always pay off for studios, as The Fall Guy showed in early May, and there’s an argument that Twisters couldn’t add much to what Twister had to say back in 1996. Audiences aren’t seeing it that way this weekend, as Twisters will pile up a shade over $80 million, according to Universal’s Sunday-morning projection. That’s up notably from our Friday-morning prediction of $66 million, and the studio’s projection of $74.6 million on Saturday. More...

Weekend predictions: Twisters should spin up $60 million or more on opening weekend

July 19, 2024

Twisters

Twisters looks set to add more momentum to the Summer season this weekend, with $2 million from special screenings on Wednesday, $8.7 million from previews on Thursday, and reportedly excellent business already on Friday. Based on the official info we have so far, it looks as though it should earn more than $60 million this weekend, which is an excellent result for a movie that’s arriving more than 28 years after the previous installment in the franchise. Meanwhile, Oddity will try to find its way into the top ten, hot on the heals of Longlegs’ big debut last weekend. More...

Theater counts: Twisters winds its way into 4,151 theaters

July 18, 2024

Twisters

After six consecutive weeks of box office dominance, the reign of animated features looks to be coming to an end this weekend as Twisters funnels into theaters. It has been impressive run for Inside Out 2, and Despicable Me 4, however, as the two films have combined for a worldwide total of over $1.84 billion, largely due to the massive success of the former. Weekend projections: Despicable Me 4 holds on strong, and Longlegs lands excellent opening

July 14, 2024

Despicable Me 4

Despicable Me 4 will continue at the top of the box office chart this weekend, with a very respectable 40% decline in its second weekend. With another $44.65 million expected to land in the bank between Friday and Sunday, the animated comedy will finish the weekend with $211 million domestically. It’s cruising past $400 million worldwide (Universal pegs its tally at $437.8 million), and the franchise now has over $5 billion in theaters worldwide—the first animated series to hit that mark. The real surprise of the weekend, however, is Longlegs, which will land in second place and give distributor Neon their best weekend ever. More...

Weekend predictions: Longlegs looking at surprise top 3 finish

July 12, 2024

Longlegs

Summer so far has been dominated by family movies, and there’s little doubt that Despicable Me 4 will continue their run at the top of the box office chart this weekend. The movie that looks as though it will finish second or third is decidedly not family-friendly. Longlegs posted an excellent $3 million in previews on Thursday, which should set it up for a great opening weekend. Fly Me to the Moon, meanwhile, has more modest ambitions, but will still be hoping for a place in the top 5. More...

Theater counts: Despicable Me 4 remains the widest release entering its second frame

July 11, 2024

Despicable Me 4

It was a solid debut for the number one film at the box office, as Despicable Me 4 dominated with five-day domestic earnings of $122.6 million after opening in 4,030 theaters on July 3rd. The latest installment has since turned up another $34 million, taking its eight-day total to $157.28 million. As no mega blockbuster films are set to open this weekend, Despicable Me 4 and Inside Out 2 should once again find themselves in the number one and number two positions, respectively, at the box office. Weekend projections: Despicable Me 4 continues good Summer run for family films

July 7, 2024

Despicable Me 4

Despicable Me 4 is headed for a Friday-to-Sunday opening in the region of $75 million, according to Universal’s Sunday-morning projection. With $47.6 million already earned from Wednesday and Thursday, the animated comedy will end the weekend with over $120 million in the bank. Inside Out 2 is being hurt a little by the competition, but will still put another $30 million into the bank on its fourth weekend (giving it the 12th-best fourth weekend). Once more, family audiences are leading the charge in theaters. More...

Weekend predictions: Despicable Me to continue animated streak at top of box office chart

July 5, 2024

Despicable Me 4

Despicable Me 4 will continue the run of animated films at the top of the box office chart this weekend. It won’t match the opening of Inside Out 2, but it will still record a very healthy extended opening over the sort-of holiday weekend. More...

Theater counts: Despicable Me 4 looks to kick off Fourth of July with a bang

July 3, 2024

Despicable Me 4

This latest installment bursts onto screens in a staggering 4,428 theaters, aiming to dethrone the current box office champion after a three-week reign. More...
