2016 - Awards Season: SAG - Winners
January 29, 2017
The Screen Actors Guild were handed out tonight and there were a couple of surprises to talk about. There was no one big winner. Hidden Figures won the most prestigious category, but Fences was the only film with multiple wins.
The categories and winners are...
Outstanding Performance by a Cast in a Motion Picture
Outstanding Performance by a Female Actor in a Leading Role
Outstanding Performance by a Male Actor in a Leading Role
Outstanding Performance by a Male Actor in a Supporting Role
Outstanding Performance by a Female Actor in a Supporting Role
Outstanding Performance by a Stunt Ensemble in a Motion Picture
Notes and Reactions...
- Hidden Figures won for best Ensemble Cast. This is great news in my opinion.
- Denzel Washington won for Fences, which might be a sign that La La Land has peaked. Granted, Emma Stone did win, so I’m not predicting the film will get shut out on Oscar night. However, it might not get carried in a wave either.
- Viola Davis also won for her performance in Fences making it the only film with two wins on the night. I think she’s now the favorite to win the Oscar.
- Mahershala Ali won Best Supporting Actor for Moonlight and I hope this is an omen for Oscar night.
- Hacksaw Ridge won for Best Stunts? It was the best Oscar-bait movie nominated, but I don’t think it had the best stunts.
