May 1st, 2025

Thunderbolts*

The weekend box office saw another win for Sinners as the film crossed the $100 million mark on Saturday, finishing its second weekend with $45.71 million for a total of $123.24 million. With a mere 6% decline from its opening weekend, the Michael B. Jordan film found itself third on the all-time list of smallest declining films, just behind Shrek and Avatar, respectively. Theater counts: Blue Beetle rebuffs an onslaught of newcomers to become widest release

August 24th, 2023

Blue Beetle

While holding steady from its opening count of 3,871 theaters, Blue Beetle becomes the latest film to become the widest release in its sophomore frame, partially due to Barbie finally dropping below the 4,000-theater mark after spending four of its five weeks as the most widely-available film in North America. Blue Beetle topped last weekend’s box office with just over $25 million and currently holds a six-day domestic total of $32.19 million. This week, however, brings on a slew of fresh films ready to challenge Blue Beetle and Barbie for the box office crown. More...

Weekend predictions: Violent Night shooting for second place on slow weekend

December 2nd, 2022

Violent Night

Black Panther: Wakanda Forever shouldn’t have much trouble staying top at the box office this weekend, with a hodgepodge of new releases aiming to pick up the slack coming off Thanksgiving, but none of them looking likely to do huge business. Theater counts: Strange World becomes widest release while Violent Night smashes its way into theaters

December 1st, 2022

Strange World

After a slew of new wide releases made their way into movie theaters over the Thanksgiving Holiday, we see only one true new wide release coming to cinemas this week in the way of Christmas action-comedy, Violent Night. Joining Violent Night is a familiar face, as Top Gun: Maverick soars in for a two week theatrical engagement in 1,864 locations before making its streaming debut on Paramount+ starting December 22. Tom Cruise’s epic jet fighter sequel currently sits at number 5 on the all-time domestic box office chart with over $716 million in earnings. The widest release this week however belongs to last week’s newcomer, Strange World, keeping its opening count of 4,174 locations from its under-performing debut week. More...

Featured TV on DVD Review: The Newsroom: The Complete First Season

June 11th, 2013

The Newsroom was one of three new shows to debut on HBO last year, and the only drama. It was created by Aaron Sorkin, who has won countless awards including an Oscar, a Golden Globe, numerous Prime Time Emmys, WGAs, PGAs, etc. Needless to say, it had high expectations associated with it. Can it live up to those expectations? Will it appeal to fans of Aaron Sorkin? Will it only appeal to fans of Aaron Sorkin? More...
